Wednesday, 31 October 2007 - Trick-or-treaters

Dear God:

Today, I am thankful for 25 brave and hardy trick-or-treaters.

The temperature had already dipped into the 30s when the first trick-or-treaters visited our house. S had just set out the jack-o-lantern (literally - a metal lantern with a smiling, pumpkin face, lit by a large candle).

During the ensuing 90 minutes, we greeted a diversity of characters including Spider Man (S misspoke and called him Batman), a perfectly-attired hippie, clowns, princesses, ghouls and several robots. Most wore heavy winter coats and offered to unzip their jackets to show-off their creative costumes. The high school boys we know came as themselves (very scary!). Even T got into the act, wearing his Tour de France yellow kerchief and barking loudly at each doorbell ring.

For this blessing, I am grateful.

Amen.
