Wednesday, 11 April 2007 - A sunny, spring day

Dear God:

Today, I am thankful for a sunny spring day that precedes winter's next visit.

Winter is long in this climate
and spring--a matter of a few days
only,--a flower or two picked
from mud or from among wet leaves
or at best against treacherous
bitterness of wind, and sky shining
teasingly, then closing in black
and sudden, wtih fierce jaws.

~William Carlos Williams
from March, part I

For this blessing, I am grateful.

Amen.

Observation: When daffodils sing in their pitch-perfect voices, I'm sure they prefer light opera - the ones with stories and characters that make people smile, even laugh. I'm thinking Offenbach (Tales of Hoffman) or Gilbert and Sullivan.
