Tuesday, 10 April 2007 - One fine finch family

Dear God:

Today, I am thankful for one fine finch family.

To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter... to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life.
~John Burroughs

(sigh) It's already April 10. The "for rent" sign still hangs near one primo nesting site - the Christmas wreath hanging on our front door. For the past three years, finch families have successfully built nests and raised their families in this sheltered location.

One potential tenant surveyed the property early this morning (see photo featuring Mr. Finch atop the left pine tree). T and I reminded him that there's still time to build a cozy nest, lay eggs and raise a family. The rent is free and we're very accommodating landlords. In fact, until the fledglings leave the nest, we stop using the front door altogether.

For this blessing, I am grateful.

Amen.
