Dear God:
Today, I am thankful for summer nights.
Silently, one by one,
in the infinite meadows of heaven,
Blossomed the lovely stars,
the forget-me-nots of the angels.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Evangeline
Hot summer days melt slowly into warm evenings that eventually evaporate into cool nights. We stay up very late, waiting for the midnight breezes to displace the stuffy upstairs air. The house is ready with open windows and tied-back curtains. Only when a strong surge of cool air finally pushes aside the stifling afternoon air will we heave a welcome sigh of relief and go to bed.
For this blessing, I am grateful.
Amen.
